Images of America – 10 years later (2)

Images_of_amerika_NinoIt could sound a bit scary, but it is not so. Thus, I'm just telling a story about my flight on a line between Washington Dulles – Chicago O'Hare in October 2001 and about the pilot who made warm and patriotic speeches.

Fanaticism: When I built a wall

  • PDF

the_wallI was once a real fanatic and increasingly radicalized in my ideas, just as Pink in ‘The Wall’ gets more and more extreme in his imagination. Like him I built, brick by brick, a wall around me. A wall which separated me from reality. But in building that wall, all of society took part.

The paradox of fanaticism

Nino_FanatismeAs soon as you attempt to tackle the issue of fanaticism you will be immediately drawn to a strong fact of paradox.

The land I live in

I live in a land ruled by a tribal leader, full of killers under whose suits there’s a constant trickle of blood. I live in a country governed by two madrasas, the pockets of whose sheikhs never fill up. I live in a country where in the name of democracy all my wealth and treasures and ethics and sensibilities are raped and murdered, and then they come to my funeral to deliver their condolences. I live in a country with many different types of mercenaries and executioners, dressed in camouflaged clothes and black facemasks, in suits, in civil activist masks, or as Zeravanis*, among a thousand other names. When you ask which of these is official, they say all are and none are! They say “You imbecile, what a difference does it make? All that matters is that they all kill you.” It is a country I live in where, as I hand a flower to these executioners, they put a bullet in my heart in return.

berlinwall_smallThis year is jam-packed with jubilees: some that are very significant for our history, some for the spirit of my generation, and some that are completely private. But most of them contain a little bit of everything.

ovidiusex Ponto
